She&#8217;s already reached 449,210 steps and is well on her way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Journey That Started with a Shock<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three years ago, Mel received a diagnosis that completely changed her life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite living a healthy lifestyle, enjoying regular exercise and maintaining a balanced diet, she was diagnosed with diabetes. It came as a complete surprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Mel explains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;My diagnosis came out of the blue just over three years ago. It was a shock, and I cried. If you know me, you&#8217;ll know I&#8217;m not overweight, I eat healthily, and I love exercise. The nurse just said, &#8216;It&#8217;s bad luck.'&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why she&#8217;s stepping up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than five million people in the UK are living with diabetes, and someone is diagnosed every two minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The money raised through the challenge helps Diabetes UK fund research into better treatments and, one day, a cure. It also helps provide advice and support for people living with diabetes every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s exactly why this challenge means so much. For Mel, every step is a chance to help make a difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Always giving back<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This isn&#8217;t the first time Mel has raised money for charity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She has previously supported Anthony Nolan and Cancer Research UK, taking on fundraising challenges to help causes that change lives.
