The latest <a href=\"https:\/\/kbbfocus.com\/news\/6238-latest-study-from-houzz-finds-homeowners-plan-to-stay-in-their-forever-homes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Houzz &amp; Home Study<\/a> puts median renovation spending at \u00a320,000, while Aviva estimates almost seven million are planning projects over the next two years. Many UK homeowners can&#8217;t afford to move and are improving their current home instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet customers are becoming more cautious about large upfront costs. Whether it&#8217;s a heat pump, solar installation, replacement windows or a bathroom renovation, many are taking longer to commit. For installers, understanding this shift is becoming increasingly important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why Affordability Matters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cost of many home improvement projects has risen as material, labour and operating costs have increased. At the same time, homeowners are balancing mortgage payments, household bills and other financial commitments, meaning customers often spend longer considering larger purchases, even when they genuinely want the work completed. Houzz found that 83% of homeowners relied on savings to fund renovations in 2024, and those who cannot fund a project outright may simply postpone it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A \u00a315,000 project can feel like a significant commitment when paid upfront. Spread into monthly repayments, the same project becomes much easier to evaluate against a household budget, and for some customers it is the difference between proceeding now or postponing for another year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bigger Projects, Fewer Compromises<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When finance is available, customers are less likely to reduce the scope of a project. Without it, homeowners may switch to less expensive products or complete only part of an installation. With costs spread over time, they are more comfortable proceeding with what they originally wanted, which tends to lead to larger project values and fewer compromises during the sales process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Competing on More Than Price<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Offering finance was once seen as the preserve of larger national companies, but that has changed considerably. Installers of all sizes can now offer finance through regulated partners, allowing independent businesses to compete more effectively.
